Taking a Closer Look at the 2021 Porsche TaycanBy all accounts, the Taycan’s 2020 debut was a major hit. Reviewers heaped praise upon Porsche’s first modern all-electric vehicle and buyers spoke in droves, placing the Taycan’s sales numbers on par with several more traditional Porsche models. The car has the class-leading 300-mile electric range, breathtaking performance, and the true Porsche driving spirit. The 2021 Porsche Taycan manages to refine this formula.

Basics About the 2021 Porsche Taycan

The Taycan is a four-seat Porsche sedan with 100% electric drive. There are currently four configurations available in the US: a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) 402-horsepower base Taycan, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) 562-horsepower 4S, the AWD 670-horsepower Turbo, and AWD 750-horsepower Turbo S.

The base and 4S models are available you’re your choice of the smaller 79.2-kWh battery pack or the 83.7-kWh pack that comes standard on the Turbo and Turbo S. The most popular configuration is the 4S with an 83.7-kWh pack.

Porsche’s Future in a Car Available Now

The Taycan feels like a futuristic concept vehicle that you can drive today. It harnesses Porsche’s long experience with hybrid gasoline/electric vehicles to showcase what a performance electric car can do. Its 800-volt electric system allows it to charge at unprecedented rates (5% to 80% battery charge in just 22.5 minutes).

The performance of the Turbo S (2.4 seconds 0-60 mph) outguns the fastest supercars currently available. It can repeat this performance without taxing or overheating the battery pack. Reminder: this is in a mid-sized four-door sedan that comfortably seats four adults.

Customization Options

Porsche’s menu of options for all models is extensive; to the point that every customer can basically get a custom car. Each dealership has a delightful design studio where you can explore configurations and options, as well as look, touch, and feel the entire palette of colors and materials available to make your Taycan feel personal. It starts with 17 exterior colors and 19 interior colors.

New Taycan Features for 2021

Major changes for the 2021 Taycan model year are the RWD base version and the option for the smaller 79.2-kWh battery pack on the 4S. Minor changes include features like the optional heads-up display, satellite radio, and over-the-air updates that give owners the option to purchase and download new functions rather than visiting a service center. Porsche also refined the vehicle’s charging system to extend the battery pack’s service life. A new Taycan Cross Turismo wagon form factor is expected to arrive in the US later this year.

In the Taycan, Porsche’s engineering prowess produced an all-electric sports car that manages to be the future of electric vehicles with the true Porsche spirit. It pairs all of Porsche’s suspension and chassis experience with the phenomenal acceleration achievable from the torque-happy nature of electric motors. Throw in range-defining battery technology for its class and the interior Porsche aficionados expect. Contact Porsche Beachwood to arrange a Taycan test drive.
